Lost Your Drone License PDF?

It is one of the most common problems drone pilots face: you passed your exam, downloaded the certificate, and then at some point it disappeared. Maybe you switched phones, reformatted your computer, or simply cannot find the email it was attached to. Your license is still valid — you just do not have the file anymore.

The good news is that most EU national aviation authorities store your certificate digitally. In the Netherlands, you can re-download it from the RDW or KIWA portal. In Germany, the LBA provides access through their online account system. France's DGAC uses the AlphaTango platform. Each country has its own process, but in most cases you can retrieve your original PDF by logging into the account you used for your exam.

If you cannot access the original portal, contact the issuing authority directly. They have records of all issued certificates and can reissue your document. Once you have your PDF back, the smart move is to create a digital backup that lives on your phone permanently — so this never happens again.

Create a Digital Backup

A wallet pass is the best kind of backup for your drone license — it is always with you. Unlike a PDF saved in cloud storage or email, a wallet pass lives in your phone's native wallet app. It does not require an internet connection to view, it does not get buried in your file system, and it transfers automatically when you set up a new phone.

The pass contains all the essential information from your certificate: your full name, registration number, license categories (A1, A2, A3), expiration date, and the official verification QR code. It is formatted as a clean, readable card that you can pull up instantly — no zooming into a PDF, no scrolling through pages.

Creating your backup takes less than a minute. Upload your certificate PDF, and our system reads the QR code to verify it is a genuine EASA document. After a one-time payment of €2.99, we extract your license data and generate a wallet pass that you can add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet immediately. Your license is backed up permanently.

Never Lose Your License Again

Once your drone license is in your wallet app, losing it becomes virtually impossible. Apple Wallet passes sync through iCloud, so they survive phone replacements and resets. Google Wallet passes are tied to your Google account and follow you across devices. Even if you lose your phone entirely, your wallet pass reappears the moment you sign into your account on a new device.

We also email you the wallet pass file after generation, giving you an additional backup in your inbox. You can re-add the pass to your wallet at any time from that email. Between your wallet app, your iCloud or Google account, and your email, your drone license is backed up in multiple places automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

I lost my drone license PDF. How do I get a new copy?
You can typically re-download your drone pilot certificate from the same portal where you originally completed your training and exam. In the Netherlands, check your RDW/KIWA account. In Germany, log into the LBA portal. In France, visit the DGAC AlphaTango platform. Most national aviation authorities keep your certificate available for download in your account as long as it remains valid. If you cannot access the original portal, contact the issuing authority directly.
Can I create a wallet pass if I only have a screenshot of my license?
No. We require the original PDF certificate because it contains the embedded QR code that links to the official verification system. A screenshot or photo does not contain this machine-readable QR data. You will need to obtain the original PDF from your national aviation authority before creating a wallet pass.
Is the wallet pass a legal replacement for my lost certificate?
The wallet pass is a convenient way to carry your license data and verification QR code, but your official PDF certificate from the national aviation authority remains the primary legal document. We recommend re-downloading your official PDF and then creating a wallet pass from it. This gives you both the official document for your records and a wallet pass for daily convenience.
What if I lost my drone license and it has expired?
If your certificate has expired, you will need to renew it through your national aviation authority before creating a wallet pass. Our system verifies the QR code on your certificate, which links to the authority's verification database. An expired certificate can still be converted into a wallet pass, but the pass will show the original expiration date. It is your responsibility to ensure your license is current and valid.
Can I transfer my wallet pass to a new phone?
Yes. Apple Wallet passes transfer automatically when you restore a backup or set up a new iPhone with iCloud. For Google Wallet, passes are linked to your Google account and appear on any device where you are signed in. If your pass does not transfer for any reason, you can re-add it from the email we sent when you originally created it.
